Caffeine, an Apple-sanctioned and Mac OS-based tool that prevents your computer from going into sleep mode, is a popular method for bypassing energy saver settings. However, if you want to install Caffeine’s iOS version on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you’ll need to have a jailbroken iDevice.

“One of the simplest and most popular tools for Mac OS X, Caffeine, has been made available on iOS today to continue saving you time and killing your battery,” writes Alexander Vaughn in a Tuesday article on AppAdvice. “Caffeine, is an amazing little tool for the Macthat prevents your system from going to sleep. Once launched, it will allow you to define a timeframe during which you want your Mac to be kept awake (or simply forever), despite any energy saver preferences you might have set. Launched today on iOS, Caffeine is pretty much the same thing.”

Caffeine’s iOS variant is currently available as a free download through the Cydia jailbreak application store.

“(Caffeine is) a simple springboard switch to disable the device’s auto-lock feature easily…” Vaughn says. “If you don’t mind the massive impact that keeping your device awake will have on your battery, Caffeine should be perfect for you.”
