Although a September release date for the iPhone 5 has been widely accepted as truth for at least of month, a recent posting on a British job website has the blogosphere speculating about an earlier street date for the latest model of Apple’s popular smartphone. Could the iPhone 5 be in consumers’ hands in mid August?
“Apple, one of the largest consumer electronic hardware and software companies in the world are seeking full-time iPhone Sales Staff for an exciting project to work 5 days a week (Monday-Friday) for the period 15th …

Electronics startup WiTricity has been linked to Apple’s attempts to patent new wireless charging technology, which the latter hopes will completely revolutionize the way smartphones are powered. According to Forbes, the nascent company has been approached by Apple to help in the development process of the new technology, which would presumably be implemented into the iPhone 6.
WiTricity first introduced its wireless charging technology in 2009. “In WiTricity’s demo, the company embedded metal coils in an iPhone and in a secondary device that resembled a large radio antenna. Through the coils, …

In its next iOS update, Apple will fix the bug that hacker Comex exploited to create the JailbreakMe 3.0 tool, which is the first of its kind to jailbreak the iPad 2. With more than a million downloads in its first week or so of being available to the public, the PDF-based JailbreakMe 3.0 certainly got Apple’s attention.
“While the news of surpassing the 1 million downloads mark in less than a day is big for the jailbreak community, the excitement comes with a bit of impending doom,” writes Joe Aimonetti …

It’s been heavily speculated that Sprint will begin supporting the iPhone later this year, but according to a CNET.com article posted Tuesday, T-Mobile might also get into the mix with Apple. The possible addition of Sprint and T-Mobile to the iPhone’s list of carriers means that all major United States wireless companies, including AT&T and Verizon, could provide coverage for the smartphone within the next year.
“While we remain uncertain regarding the next-generation iPhone’s specs and features, we believe the most noteworthy change could be the device’s ability to run on …

Opining that Apple’s iPhone has “lost some of its luster,” MarketWatch writer Jon Friedman suggests that the company needs to do several things in order to get back on track with its popular line of smartphones.
On the technical side of things, Friedman says that Apple must improve iPhone wireless service, optimize the device’s keyboard, improve its built-in camera, ramp up its speed, do something about the fingerprints that inevitably end up on the case and make the batteries last longer.
Expanding upon a few of those subjects, Friedman writes, “I recognize …

In a recent post for GottaBeMobile, the mobile technology site’s Will Shanklin compiles a list of the top lesser-known iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch jailbreak applications “that may have flown under your radar.”
Among the items included in Shanklin’s list are MultiIcon Mover, which lets you drag multiple home screen icons to a different page simultaneously (instead of the default one-by-one setting); Hide Icons, which allows you to conceal certain apps from sight; FastNote, an app that makes note-taking faster and easier than ever before; Swype, which makes it unnecessary for …

In a weekend post for CSO, a news source for security executives, Robert Lemos explains Comex’s latest JailbreakMe 3.0 tool, which is capable of quickly jailbreaking Apple’s iPad 2 and many other of the company’s gadgets, and gets an industry analyst’s opinion on this week’s developments.
“Code that exploits two iPhone flaws to allow people to jailbreak their devices could, ironically, force security-conscious users to use the vulnerabilities to jailbreak their own iPhones and apply a third-party patch,” Lemos writes, before touching on hacker Comex and JailbreakMe 3.0. “By visiting the …

While Forbes’ Erika Murphy concedes that the iPhone 5 “will be awesome,” she writes in an article posted Friday that many other upcoming smartphones will also wow consumers. “For advertisers what is most relevant is this: the features that make the iPhone such a great platform for mobile marketing are also making their way into other devices,” she says before listing some key iPhone features that other manufacturers are incorporating into their own gadgets.
Fluid displays, engaging imagery, expanded swipe features, personal WiFi hotspots, faster processors, improved cameras, more memory and …
