Rumors of Apple’s plans to get into the high-definition television world made waves on the Internet earlier this week, suggesting that the company will be able to carry on without late founder Steve Jobs, who passed away this month. Now, it’s being reported that iTunes creator Jeff Robbin will oversee the company’s latest venture, lending credence to reports of Apple’s interest in producing its own TVs.
“Apple Inc. is turning to the software engineer who built iTunes to help lead its development of a television set, according to three people with …

With untethered and semi-tethered iOS 5 jailbreaks already available, all that’s left for hackers to complete is an untethered jailbreak for Apple’s latest mobile operating system update. The iPhone Dev-Team and several others are said to be hard at work on an untethered iOS 5 exploit, and now the GreenPois0n development team has thrown its hat into the ring.
“Sorry for being quiet. I’ve been in Atlanta visiting my family. Should have enough for iPhone 4S now, thanks to all the donations,” popular iDevice hacker Joshua Hill (a.k.a. p0sixninja) posted on …

It can become very tedious to close all of your iOS applications one by one, but new jailbreak tweak WeeKillBackground is coming to the rescue. The iOS 5-only tweak allows jailbreakers to kill all of their open apps at once via a button that’s added to the top of Notification Center.
“If the lack of an untethered jailbreak solution hasn’t stopped you ‘liberating’ your iOS 5 device, consider downloading “WeeKillBackground” – a new Notification Center widget that allows users to easily kill all applications on their iOS device,” writes Joe White …

An untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is currently in the works, but until that exploit is made publicly-available, new Cydia package SemiTether will have to do. Released on the Cydia jailbreak store Monday, allows jailbreakers to reboot their tethered iOS 5 jailbreaks without hooking their device up to a computer.
“If you’re not desperate to jailbreak your iOS device, do be aware that an untethered solution is currently being developed and should be released soon,” explains Joe White in a Monday article for AppAdvice. “With an ‘untethered solution,’ users can reboot …

Allowing users to stream movies, television shows and music to their TV, the AppleTV digital media receiver has been a profitable niche item ever since Apple debuted it in 2006. Having made a successful entry into this market, Apple is now planning to produce its own television sets, according to a Monday blog post on the CNN Money blog.
“In a note to clients released Monday, Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster seizes on remarks attributed to Steve Jobs in the biography published overnight as “another data point” to support a thesis he’s …

Siri is definitely one of the most popular applications for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5, but it’s becoming apparent that there are still some kinks for Apple to iron out when it comes to the artificial intelligence feature, which lets users make calls, set reminders and much more via state-of-the-art voice-recognition technology. A recently-discovered glitch allows access to Siri even when the 4S is locked.
“A default setting lets anyone who picks up the iPhone 4S to send emails and texts or access a user’s address book, calendar and personal …

The jailbreaking community has been patiently waiting for an untethered jailbreak of Apple’s new iOS 5 ever since the mobile operating system was seeded to developers in beta form this summer. Software developers like the iPhone Dev-Team and iH8sn0w have provided temporary solutions with tethered jailbreaks like Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze, but there’s nothing like an exploit that doesn’t have to be re-installed every time you restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
“Members of the Chronic Dev team told folks at JailbreakCon last month that they had multiple exploits for iOS,” explains …

With the recent release of Apple’s new iOS 5 mobile operating system, there’s an especially large demand for iOS jailbreaks. Last week’s updates of the GreenPois0n, Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tools have both proven popular effective, and even though they’re currently tethered, at least they’re authentic. The fake FastRa1n 0.5 is currently making its way around the Internet, a $24.99 counterfeit masquerading as the first untethered iOS 5 jailbreak.
As Alex Heath writes for iDownloadBlog, the first tip that FastRa1n is a fake is that it has a price tag attached …

The App Store has become an incredibly profitable venture for Apple, allowing the company to market its iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch based on third-party applications that can do anything from tuning a guitar to giving you up-to-the-second sports news. Of course, it’s a symbiotic relationship, as some developers are able to make a healthy living off sales from their mobile applications.
However, as late Apple founder Steve Jobs told his biographer before passing away earlier this month, the App Store was never in his plans for the company’s revolutionary …

If Notification Center has become one of your frequent iOS 5 hangouts, new jailbreak tweak FavoriteContacts will make you an even bigger fan of the mobile operating system’s new feature. One of many Notification Center add-ons to be released since iOS 5 debuted last Wednesday, FavoriteContacts places your top contacts into the widget.
“Once downloaded, this handy tweak adds the contacts listed in the “Favorites” section of users’ Phone app to iOS 5?s Notification Center,” writes Joe White in a recent post for AppAdvice. “The tweak adds a new item in …
