Reports from late July had the iPhone 5 arriving in the United States September 5 and worldwide in October, but according to a PC Magazine story posted this weekend, AT&T’s request for employees not to take off-days late next month suggest the device will arrive in about seven weeks instead.
“AT&T has reportedly warned employees that it will deny any leave requests for the last two weeks of September, suggesting an end-September launch of the next-generation iPhone,” writes the magazine’s Sara Yin. “Most ‘iPhone 5’ rumors nowadays point to a September …

The iPhone must really be a smartphone if it’s capable of running PocketMode, one of the more subtle but most impressive new jailbreak tweaks around. The new tweak turns up your phone’s ringer volume depending on if the device is in your pocket, purse or backpack.
“Have you missed a phone call when your iPhone is in your pocket because you didn’t hear it ring? If so, then checkout the jailbreak tweak called PocketMode that is available through Cydia for a jailbroken iPhone,” reads a recent article on iPhoneHacks.

Apple is believed to be readying the iPhone 5 for a September release in the United States and an October worldwide date, but the fifth-generation smartphone might not be the only mobile device the company is plotting to roll out before the end of 2011. According to Digital Trends report from earlier in the week, the iPad 3 will be manufactured by Taiwan’s Pegatron and could arrive in November.
“The Taiwan-based Pegatron manufacturer has allegedly outbid Hon Hai for the iPad 3’s production,” writes Jeff Hughes for Digital Trends. “Hon Hai …

According to a recent survey of U.S. consumers, Apple’s iPad is leading the way in customer satisfaction among similar computer tablets. On a scale of zero to 10, those surveyed gave the iPad an average score of 8.8.
“Apple’s competitors in the tablet market already are facing major challenges in offering products that can match the iPad’s combination of optimized hardware, software, operating system, applications, content and app store,” said analyst Rhoda Alexander of iHS iSuppli, the firm that conducted the study, in a statement. “Apple will account for the majority …

Considering the hot water one Apple insider landed in after leaving a prototype of the then-new iPhone 4 at a bar, you’d think the company would be smarter than to let someone bring that phone’s successor, the iPhone 5, onto a train. However, according to a story on 9to5Mac, one recent train passenger may have spotted the device being used by another railfan.
“Last evening, a tipster sent us some pictures of what he now thinks is the iPhone 5,” reads a Thursday post on the website. “He caught what he …

Amidst the hoopla over leaked photos of iPhone 5 case plans from a Chinese case manufacturer, Jeff Ward-Bailey of The Christian Science Monitor writes that the pictures, revealed by cell phone blog Mobile Fun, may or may not provide a glimpse at the the upcoming smartphone.
“The site says the pictures come from a ‘design document for an iPhone 5 case,’ apparently leaked from a Chinese manufacturer, as well as a mockup of a second iPhone 5 case, which it says comes from a different manufacturer,” Ward-Bailey explains. “So why is …

LockLauncher – Launch iOS Apps Right From Your Lock Screen

The upcoming iOS 5 mobile operating system allows iPhone users to start the phone’s built-in camera function from the lock screen, but it’s the only app capable of this. Luckily, a new jailbreak tweak, LockLauncher, makes it possible to launch other apps from the lock screen, making it much easier to access your most-used programs.
“The apps appear along the bottom of the Lock screen, just above the ‘swiper,’ explains AppAdvice’s Joe White. “However, touching an app icon doesn’t immediately launch the app – instead, users tap the app icon and …

According to an article by CNN’s Doug Gross posted earlier today, the iPhone 5 is expected to be a “radical redesign” of Apple’s popular smartphone line, if leaked images from a Chinese case manufacturing plant are to be trusted. The news initially broke on British technology blog Mobile Fun.
“The case, and an image the blog says was later sent to them by another manufacturer, suggest what they call “massive changes” to the iPhone 5, or whatever it will be called,” reports the article. “Among them: what appears to be a …

In a recent article for AppAdvice, the site’s Joe White writes about the new iPad version of a popular messaging application that’s only available for jailbroken devices. The advanced WhatsApp Messenger program is currently awaiting approval in the Cydia jailbreak app store and builds on iOS’ native messaging app.
“If you haven’t heard of WhatsApp Messenger, this handy iPhone app allows users to message other smart phone owners for free,” he says. “It’s a great application, and one I’ve been using for a while. Indeed, the only limitation is that there’s …
