Some of you out there have probably heard of one of Cydia’s apps. It’s called PkgBackup. And it’s pretty much what it sounds like – a way for iPhone and iPad users to take backups of jailbreak apps and other little exploits that may have been downloaded.

Cydia’s popular iPhone jailbreak application store will have some competition in the near future, as the Infini Dev Team readies its Mobile Safari-based Lima, which should make it harder to pirate jailbreaks apps. Infini is also in the process of bringing back its similar Icy program, which is still in the beta testing stage.

Business Insider has posted its list of top applications iPhone users can enjoy once they’ve jailbroken their smartphones. Among the honorees: the Safari Download Manager and a more-sophisticated spell-check app.
Safari’s Download Manager ($5 from the Cydia store, which specializes in jailbreak apps) is a welcome addition for anyone who uses their iPhone more like a computer than a cell phone, allowing users to download multiple items to their phone at a time and sync them up with a computer. “Something Mobile Safari should’ve had all along,” says Insider.

iPhone and iPad users have been the apple of Apple’s eye, at least for the last 10 months. As multiple sources reported Wednesday, the company has been secretly tracking the locations of its customers through the iOS 4 mobile operating system for nearly a year.

On Wednesday, iPhone blog iSmashPhone posted its list of top applications and themes for jailbroken iPhones, all of which are available through jailbreak directory Cydia. Among the site’s favorite add-ons not approved by Apple are a keyboard customizer, a program that takes out the iPhone dock’s reflection, a media stream application and several customized themes.
ColorKeyboard, available for $1.99, allows iPhone users to change the color theme of the device’s touch-screen keyboard, which is used in texting, web surfing and other functions. A wide array of color schemes are available.
